SOC463. Sociology of Culture (4cr)
This course is a practicum in the methods, theory and substance of the sociology of culture, a sub-field of sociology which applies sociological methods to the study of specific genres of "cultural objects" such as popular novels, television programs, leisure activities, fashion, art works, and everyday language. Each student will complete an individual research project focused on a specific cultural object of his/her own choice. Students lead the course, and have the opportunity for extensive out-of-class fieldwork and in-class discussion.
