ART351. Studies in Art History (4cr)
The course focuses on the interactive relationship between art criticism and art praxis since the mid-nineteenth century to the end of the 1960s. The intent is to reevaluate the role that art criticism played in directing the course of the development of "modern" art in various ways. While special attention is given to the close reading of significant texts of successive periods, the course also investigates the works mentioned in those text in terms of their formal qualities and historical contexts.
