The FLA enjoys an unusually distinctive and productive relationship with Japanese and international job markets. Its graduates readily find employment in Japanese firms and foreign firms in Japan, as well as entrance into top graduate or professional training programs around the world and careers in free-professional positions requiring international and multicultural skills.

Our graduates have many advantages. Having honed public speaking through presentations in class graduates develop pronounced confidence in self-expression. And, as classes are taught entirely in English, graduates gain not only English-speaking ability but full competence in an English-speaking environment. The classic liberal arts education develops analytic skills and capacity for creative thinking, while immersion in our community of students and professors – representing over 40 nationalities and based in the heart of cosmopolitan Tokyo – ensures that graduates have the rich multicultural skills so highly sought after in international work settings.

Graduate Study

Many FLA students continue on to advanced training and education in graduate school. Those who desire to build on their education while remaining in Japan may choose from one of three MA programs (Global Studies, International Business and Development Studies, and Japanese Studies) in Sophia’s Graduate Program of Global Studies, where courses are taught in English. Some FLA students also enter other graduate programs at Sophia or other Japanese universities. Many others go overseas to continue their education.
